5 Questions to ask before scheduling an appointment for hearing aids
Finding the right audiology clinic for hearing aids can be tricky. To help, here are five important questions to ask your local hearing aid clinic before making an appointment. The best way to start is by looking for a HearingUp Network Member. If not, use these questions to ensure you’re getting the best care!
This is the most important question you can ask. The answer should always be YES. When it comes to achieving the best results with hearing aids, the clinic should follow Comprehensive Best Practices throughout the entire process: testing, selecting the right hearing aid, fitting, and ongoing follow-up. Unfortunately, less than 30% of hearing care professionals adhere to these best practices. At Hear and Clear Care our audiologists follow best practices – you can even download Best Practice checklists on HearingUp.com to hold them accountable!
A thorough consultation and hearing test are crucial to properly assess your needs and find the best solution for your hearing loss. Ideally, an initial appointment should last at least 60 to 90 minutes. Shorter appointments might indicate a rushed process, which can lead to a less personalized experience. A longer appointment allows the audiologist to properly assess your hearing, discuss options, and ensure you are fully informed about the hearing aids that best suit your lifestyle.
Getting hearing aids is just the start of the journey. It’s essential that you have ongoing support and adjustments as you get used to your new hearing aids. You should expect to see your hearing care provider at least 3 times during the initial 30-60 day trial period. Additionally, make sure there are follow-up appointments scheduled every 3-6 months during the first year to ensure your hearing aids continue to perform at their best. Regular check-ins are important for addressing any issues and ensuring optimal hearing performance. At Hear and Clear Care our hearing aids include 1 year of appointments to make sure you are as happy as possible – so come in and see us as much as you need!
When it comes to hearing aids, there is no “one size fits all.” Every person’s hearing loss and preferences are unique, and different brands offer different features. It’s essential that your clinic offers at least 2 different brands of hearing aids. A clinic that offers multiple brands can better match you with a hearing aid that suits your preferences, lifestyle, and budget. As an independent clinic we are not contracted to any manufacturer and can fit whichever device we think will suit your needs best!
