Is it healthy to sleep with ear plugs every night?
Sleeping with ear plugs is generally safe and many people use them every night to improve sleep quality. However, regular use does come with some potential risks.
Over time, ear plugs can push earwax deeper into the ear canal rather than allowing it to migrate out naturally. This may lead to wax build-up, which can cause:
- A blocked or full sensation
- Ear pressure
- Temporary hearing loss
- Increased tinnitus
- Occasionally dizziness
To reduce risk, use a clean, well-fitting ear plug and replace disposable ones regularly. If you notice blocked ears, discomfort, or changes in hearing, itβs best to have your ears checked by an audiologist.
