How to hear better this Christmas.
- Pick a quiet seat
- Background noise such as that coming from kitchens or music speakers can make it very difficult to hear clearly.
- Try and pick a quiet spot to have a conversation away from the noise.
- See as many faces as possible
- It’s not just your ears that help you hear clearly, your eyes do too!
- We understand conversations by seeing people’s gestures, facial expressions and lip movements too.
- Try and position yourself so you can see as many people’s faces as possible. Good lighting can help as well.
- Turn the music down
- I know it can be lovely to have Christmas carols or your favourite tunes playing whilst you’re enjoying family time. However, background music can make it more difficult to hear friends and family clearly. Turn down the volume and it will be easier for everyone to hear better.
- Help others help you
- Don’t be afraid to tell family and friends that you are having trouble hearing them.
- Asking people to directly face you when they’re speaking to you, or to speak a bit slower can make it much easier to follow conversation.
If you are feeling a bit worried about your hearing this festive season, please book a hearing test with Emma at Hear and Clear Care. I know it can be tempting to delay your hearing test, but don’t put it off until the new year, have your hearing tested today.
